TGIF Tips

Me at my favorite bar in Strasbourg

The weekend is finally here and you guessed it, it’s time to celebrate its arrival, so here are some weekend saving tips.
Ask about drink specials: Bars and sometimes even liquor stores have awesome specials such as a pint night or a special event with great prices.
Carry cash: Some bars have credit card limits which may make you buy more drinks to reach their limit.
Pregame: buy a cheap bottle or six pack to drink with your friends before you go out.
Frequent the same bar: if you make friends with a bartender and don’t make a fool of yourself, chances are they’ll treat you to a drink every once in a while.
Go to house parties: $5/solo cup is not too shabby especially since you can refill till the keg is kicked.
Find free tastings: you can find them online for any area, and sometimes you can even get a free pint glass from them.
Hang out at a friend’s place: if you bring booze to a friend’s place for a game or just as a gesture, they’ll probably volunteer to pitch in or get your round at a bar sometime.
Drink beer: beer is always cheaper than liquor or mixed drinks at bars.
If you’re not picky: buy cheap beer or liquor. Mixers will go well with cheap liquor. PBR and Coors Light are not too bad tasting for being cheap beers.
Keep drunk food at home: there are some foods that are just delicious when you’re intoxicated: pizza, doner kebab, greasy foods. Keep some easy mac or your snack of choice at home so you save some money while out on the town. OR only get drunk food one night of the weekend or every other weekend.
Don’t get top shelf: Jack and coke will work just fine, you really don’t need to get the finest whiskey they have.

The collegize blog does not condone underage drinking. Have fun, be safe and always responsible: have a DD, walking buddy or cab company’s number. Happy weekend everyone!

Collegize tip #1 Coffee

Hello all, and welcome to the collegize blog. Here are just some tips I’ve collected to save money in college. So our first topic is coffee.

Many of us need a cup of joe (or a few) to get us going in the morning, so here are a few tips for saving money on coffee.
-Buy a reusable mug: it’s greener and many places will knock off .50 to as much a couple of dollars off the price of your coffee. Added bonus: many places give you a free cup of coffee when you first buy the mug.
-Drink instant coffee: it may sound gross, but depending on how much coffee you go through and how quickly you go through it, it may save you a lot by not having to spend $9 on a bag of beans. Plus, it’s easy to make a single cup serving.
-Buy a coffee pot or single serving coffee maker: Places like Walmart sell coffee pots for $20 or less.
-Buy cheap: look for sales or if you’re not picky, buy cheaper brands of coffee.
-Save your coffee: if you drink your java slowly and want some for later, stick it in the fridge after it’s become tepid and make it into iced coffee later by adding some ice from your freezer.
